Small but Handsome Bathroom
As the only bathroom for this two-bedroom home, it needed to utilize the space as efficiently as possible. Along the way, we have been through a few interim phases of improvements for this small bathroom. But, at long last, we have achieved our forever-space.
Initially, we brightened-up and unified the space by painting it all white and putting in a vanity with a smidgen more storage. This helped the space to feel a bit larger and allowed for a little bit of additional storage.
Then, eventually, we were able to complete a full renovation that added some modern pizzazz. Check out where we started and where we ended.
From Original and Basic…
The original bathroom used every bit of its footprint as possible. There was a large storage closet in the space (not in photo) that we considered overtaking in order to reconsider the overall footprint. But, in the end, with storage at a premium, we decided to keep the closet intact. With a limited budget, we were charged with refreshing this basic and tired space.

…to (interim) Bright White to…
With a limited budget, we were able to make a few small changes that gave the illusion that this small space was roomier than it actual was. On the docket for change: replace the vanity for one that maximized storage, replace the dark shower curtain for a lighter option, and resurface the tan wall tiles with white. To change the tiles, we resurfaced them using Miracle Method. In addition, a few cosmetic changes would also help put a fresh face on this space.
The existing vanity had the opportunity to be replaced with one that could maximize storage. And the dark gray shower curtain was swapped out for a brighter option to help to visually enlarge the room. Even though the window took up premium wall space and kept us from adding a more efficient medicine cabinet than the original, it was nice to have the natural light to keep the room naturally bright.
Slightly updated bathroom: all painted white to unify space and give the illusion of it being a larger space than it actually is.
…Handsome Showstopper Years Later
Cut away to a few years later and the owner was finally ready to make this small space into a handsomely designed bathroom that they loved to use.
In order to meet present-day building codes, we needed to downsize the existing vanity. Given that, all the more reason to keep the previously-mentioned storage closet. Opting to swap out the shower-over-tub for a walk-in shower allowed the visual space in the room to seemingly double.
The hero of the bathroom was the handsome, tile accent wall. The full length, built-in, lighted niche was a super bonus for this hard-working small space. And the cool, unexpected accent lighting gave the room even more fun personality.

The biggest vanity that building codes would allow but, isn’t she cute?
